Children’s TV networks should stop making shows that push LGBTQ+ to younger audiences.

By Valerie Meneses

Everyone knows that the LGBTQ+ community is something that has been normalized in our generation by being able to express themselves the way they want.

But one thing that isn’t so great about this is how many children’s TV networks are making shows about what it's like to be non-binary or even what it's like to be in a same-sex relationship. Many people might not find this to be a big deal, but as this keeps happening, many parents are slowly realizing that it is not okay for little kids to watch.

Netflix had received backlash for releasing an episode on Cocomelon that showed many little toddler boys in tutus and two gay parents telling them to just be themselves.

Children are innocent and have no concept of what it is to be gay or non-binary, and with agendas like this, they are going to think it’s okay to become gay or non-binary because it’s what they’re learning as they watch it. Now, every show that parents might put on for their kids is something LGBTQ+ related. Now, every single children’s TV platform includes gay characters in their shows, and these platforms include Netflix, Disney, Disney Jr, and even PBS Kids. Parents are always going to want their kids to watch shows that they enjoy watching without their children being exploited by these mature principles.

Many shows that I’ve grown up watching, such as “Doc McStuffin,” have also been very open about what same-sex marriage is between two moms, and from the last time that I saw the show, many things have changed about it. A show called “Ridley Jones” shows a Bison coming out as non-binary as well, which is outrageous because when did animals have an identity? Not only has LGBTQ+ become a bigger and more normalized community, but now an agenda in our society to make children think that they can be gay or non-binary when, in reality, it’s ruining their innocence. News source “The Mirror” stated that Netflix had received backlash from parents about the episode and removed it after seeing what parents were saying and then making the decision to cancel the show altogether.

Parents should be more careful and aware of what their kids watch because now they never know what to expect when they want to put on a show for their kids to watch. Children's minds aren’t fully developed for mature adult topics like this and should remain pure, not exploited by T.V. shows that push the agenda in children’s faces.

Children are the embodiment of innocence and purity who only make decisions based on what they are taught and not because they voluntarily make it; the same way religion shouldn’t be pushed upon anybody, sexuality and identity should not be pushed upon children until they are old enough to make the decision maturely instead of prematurely.
