Sony allegedly wants a bisexual Spiderman in an upcoming Spiderman film. Former Spiderman, Andrew Garfield, said “What if MJ is a dude? Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking. So why can’t he be gay?” Even just last year, Tom Holland mentioned that it would “be a very progressive way to kind of create a new character.”
It has been rumored since the live-action film of Spiderverse (2018), the movie would bring together Tom Holland with his forerunners Andrew Garfield and Tobey McGuire. Sony wants Garfield’s reprise to be bisexual and have a boyfriend.
Garfield continues to express his excitement for a bisexual character and even suggested Michael B. Jordan to play the role. He said the actor seemed very “charismatic” and “talented.” And that not only would he be bi but it would be a bi-interacial relationship. The more representation the better.
It could all just be rumors, of course, but with Garfield’s enthusiasm and exclaim for more gay characters, it's not such a hard thing to believe.
“You’re gonna see even more new faces. From all different backgrounds, all ages, all ethnicities, LGBTQ... It’s a priority to have authenticity, to increase representation, to give greater representation to actors who have not traditionally been represented in mainstream movies on the big screen,” said Sarah Halley Finn, the casting director for every Marvel film since Iron Man (2008).

I think it would be cool to have a bisexual Spiderman considering there are now so many different variations of him. Why should it matter if Andrew's Spiderman was bisexual? It would be great representation of both the LGBTQ+ community and of a new POC (person of color) in the marvel universe. On top of that, every other Spiderman shown on screen is straight so why not add great representation to just one variation of him?
I think that it would be a great way to introduce more LGBTQ representation into the film industry. The change in gender shouldn't matter, as long as its approached with respect and isn't made to be the comedy part of the film.
It would be interesting to see Marvel's approach for a bisexual Spiderman. How would it affect the storyline of past Marvel movies.
In her article, "Sony’s Rumored Bisexual Spiderman," Livia Rollie explains that there would b be more representation if Andrew Garfield's Spiderman were to be bi, and in a bi-interracial relationship, and I agree, because there is never enough representation for minorities around the world. It is important that children, teenagers, or even adults, can have a character that they relate to, in any way. It would teach people not to be ashamed, and it is never a bad thing for under-represented groups to feel acknowledged, or seen, when white or heterosexual people are always in the frontlines.
