The week of September 9, 2024, sports medicine teacher Marcella Munoz was helping students select a career path based on their personalities and traits with the app YouScience.
Students took a personality test and based on their results, they either got a visual scanner, investigator, fact checker, collaborative planner, problem solver, etc. Based on their personality traits, it describes the traits and a list of jobs that would best suit them and their personality. The jobs they listed for each student described the job, what the jobs do, and how much money they make.
Some students believed that the test was very accurate. Stephanie Cardenas, a senior at Rialto High School, states, “I believe that it was accurate because I actually tried my best on the test. I feel like others just guessed. It was different jobs but nothing I was really looking into which really opened my eyes into learning more about the different careers and what they do.” Her personality trait was a problem solver.
Taylor Brown, a senior at Rialto High School, states, “I believe that it was very helpful, and it helped me look into places that I never thought of. When the pie chart was shown and broke it down for me, I believe it was very accurate to me and my personality.” Her personality trait was a collaborative planner.
Jenelle Alfaro, student and member of the HOSA club as a communication/socials member at Rialto High School, states, “I believe that the YouScience quiz was very helpful because it shows me what types of careers would be suitable for me, and it was pretty easy. I did find careers that interested me that I wouldn’t have even thought of.
Marcella Munoz, sports medicine teacher, states, “I believe the YouScience app helps as long as students take it seriously. Youscience helps students to discover their strengths and matches their strengths with potential careers.”
While students learn about their personalities, they learn more about themselves and their strengths and weaknesses, what to improve on, and what to focus on.
Students took various tests during this study to help determine their strengths or what they needed to improve on. For example, a speed test, math test, focus test, memory test, and many more. Each test was timed, and a score was given at the end of each one.
